Earlier this month SDi attended the 2022 NFPA Conference & Expo in Boston, Massachusetts. The conference was a great way to re-unite the industry since the last NFPA Conference was held in San Antonio, Texas back in 2019. Not only did we have the opportunity to engage with customers located in the Northeast, but we were also able to meet many customers that were visiting from Central and South America.

A lot has changed since the last NFPA Conference and it was exciting to take a look at some of the latest trends in smoke detector testing. A recent survey that SDi conducted showed that the fire industry is shifting towards electronic detector testing, so during NFPA, we showcased our electronic detector testing products. These products include the Testifire Multicriteria Detector Tester, Solo 365 Electronic Smoke Detector Tester and the Scorpion Point and ASD Systems Tester. We were able to back up the survey data with conversations and discussions that took place at NFPA that related to the benefits of testing with capsules versus testing with aerosols. Capsule technology replaces the need for canned aerosols and offers various features which make them easier to transport. These features include their smaller and lighter design, and also being non-flammable, non-hazardous, and non-pressurized.

The conference was a wonderful opportunity to connect with customers that are already using the Testifire or Solo 365 and hear about the reasons why they enjoy these electronic detector testers. Our survey results and conversations show that the top benefits that these customers experience with Testifire are its increased productivity, lower cost for testing, and ability to test multicriteria detectors. One customer in particular that we had met with at the conference was excited to tell us how much he loved the Testifire and Solo 365 capsule testing and was excited to find out how he could benefit from a handful of Scorpion applications on a college campus. SDi was excited to provide live Scorpion demos at NFPA. This was only the second time that we had showcased Scorpion at an expo in the United States – the first time being at SFPE Atlanta in March – and it was exciting to see interest in and have discussions about Scorpion.
